Same company, same day: down 11% in Seoul, about 1% in New York.
On 15 October 2026, SK hynix shares fell 11.06% in Seoul. Its New York-listed shares opened sharply lower too, then recovered most of the drop. Here is why the two prices split.

1. Seoul
SK hynix closed at 1,262,000 won on the Korea Exchange, down 11.06%, on a day the KOSPI fell 7.57% and foreign investors sold a net 3.62 trillion won. [1] [2]
2. New York
SK hynix shares listed in New York closed at 147.55 on 14 October. On 15 October they opened at 137.88 (about −6.6%) and traded at about 146.1 at 3:55 p.m. ET (about −1.0%). These late figures are intraday data; the official close was not yet published when we wrote this. [2]
3. Why the gap
Seoul’s session ends before New York’s begins. Seoul priced the fear of that morning. New York traded later in the day, as US Treasury yields fell and the Nasdaq recovered from its lows. [3] [4]
4. Can Korea catch up?
Often the next Seoul session moves toward where New York left off, because it is the newest information. That is a common pattern, not a rule, and it can fail.
5. The test
Watch the Seoul open on 16 October and whether foreign selling continues. One day is a signal, not a verdict. This note is not advice to buy or sell anything.
